Picturesque celebrations
Many beliefs and traditions mix in Guadeloupe, such as cockfights or religious dances. There is on the island an anthology of rites and other mystical manifestations brought from Africa that are still very much part of the local culture, which you can attend, especially in the capital.
Celebrations
Festivals are true "cultural baths" and closely combine music, games and culinary arts. Among the most popular are the All Saints' Day celebrations illuminating cemeteries, carnival, Christmas, Easter and Pentecost. Many patron saint's festivals also take place every year, including around Pointe-à-Pitre.
Music
Creole music and dance are omnipresent. The zouk, especially and even the zouk-love, a languorous and moist zouk, to dance "glued-tight". More traditional, orchestral dances are still used in some balls. Waltz, mazurka, polka (memories of the settlers) and especially biguine, widely practiced in the city.
